In this session, we will explore practical ways to save money in the grocery store as well as other areas of household expenses.  It’ll be fun and informative!

Viewing God’s Wonder Though the Lens of a Camera by Kristian Ogden
From the flowers in our back yard to children hanging on our leg, God’s beauty is all around us! Why not capture that beauty with photography?

We will discuss the basics of how cameras work and the different types of cameras available. Our focus will be on ways to take more creative photographs and we will even do some hands on learning. Bring your camera (no matter how small or how old) and join us for some photo fun!

Fighting for One Another by Gwen Lewis
Learning ways we can minister to the families of those who are serving in the Military.  God has placed us in the middle of a tremendous Mission Field we call Ft. Benning.  This workshop will help us learn a little of how the Army works, what some of those acronyms are, and most importantly how we can impact lives for the Glory of God.

Making Desserts that Say “I Love You” by Jill McMullen & Lori Malone
In this hands-on workshop you will learn tricks of the trade in the Cake Designing Industry.  And you will make your very own Fondant Zebra cake!  Bring a rolling pin and an apron.  Limited to 15 participants.

As women, we are often prone to manipulation or anxiety. We’ll look at antidote for a fearful heart – deep trust in God’s goodness and power.

We call ourselves followers of Jesus. What does Jesus call us to?
We will explore what He really means by this important command taken from Matthew 16:24.

Modeling Christ by Extending God’s Grace by Jenny Smith
Our world is made up of many different kinds of people. What does Christ say about accepting and celebrating our differences? We’ll dig into scripture for guidance.

Multiply Like a Mushroom by Helen Brooks
We will dive into scripture while taking a look at an analogy in nature to encourage us to look beyond ourselves and allow God to use us to multiply or grow his kingdom.

Then we will have lunch  and Mary Snyder will be our Keynote speaker in the afternoon.

She is fun and insightful, filled with grace and a love of God.  You will not want to miss it!

Cost is $10 per woman to include breakfast, lunch, and the workshops (2 in the morning and the large group session in the afternoon)

Our first Summer Oasis will be this Saturday, July 17th, at Carolyn Scannell’s home. You won’t want to miss this time of fellowship and fun from 2 to 4 p.m. as we retreat for a couple of hours and get to know other women of the Tribe a little better.

The directions to Carolyn’s house are below, but if you are interested in carpooling, we will meet at The Pointe at 1:20 p.m. and leave promptly at 1:30 p.m.

No need to bring anything but yourself and anticipation for fun! And don’t let childcare stop you: the awesome Brian (Carolyn’s other half) has agreed to play with the kids if needed.

BREAKOUT WORKSHOP I

1.  Worship: Getting to the Heart of It  - Terrie McKelvey

We all have preconceived notions about worship: what it is and what it isn’t. From Genesis to Revelation God’s desire for us to worship Him is revealed; and it is so much more than a song. As we dig into God’s Word on worship, we can deepen our understanding of what it means to be His worshipper and be transformed through the renewal of our minds (and hearts) for His glory.

2.  Trusting God No Matter What: Learning to Live by Faith – Avery Wolff

We will look at what it really means to live by faith and put your trust in God – in both the big and small circumstances of life.  By examining characteristics of God, we will learn more about who He is and why we can trust Him.

3.  The Goal of Sanctification: God’s Glory or Ours? – Helen Brooks

By looking at several passages of scripture, we will examine why God sanctifies us.  We will also look at the role that humility plays in the sanctification process.

BREAKOUT WORKSHOP II

1.  Live like no one else this year! - Hollie Farmer

In this session Hollie will give her financial testimony on how she is living like no one else now!  You will learn financial tips on spending, saving and giving. Join us as we learn what it means for you and your family to live within your means and have financial peace in the years ahead!

2.  Taste and see that the Lord is good - Jenny Hord

This workshop was our most requested to be repeated from Connect ’09!  So, Jenny will be back to discuss the relevancy of nutrition and whole foods in the life of a believer.

3.  Hey Good Lookin’, What cha got cookin’? – Cile Branch and Laurie Cole

This hands on session will tackle the practicalities of meal planning and preparation in our busy time.  You will come out of this fun workshop with a special treat to help you succeed in this area.

LARGE GROUP SESSION

We are so blessed to have a fantastic guest speaker for Connect ’10.  Dean Crowe is familiar to & well loved by many people in Columbus, and will quickly become a blessing to those who do not know her yet.  She currently lives in Atlanta, GA and is the founder and director of the Rally Foundation, an organization raising awareness and funds for Pediatric Cancer Research, treatments and cures.

She is also a wonderful speaker with a passion for God and a joyous & upbeat personality.  Her talk is titled “Hello, Is Anyone There?” and she will tackle the miraculous and sometimes difficult topic of Prayer in a way that will leave you smiling, renewed and inspired.

Don’t miss this day of Connection with other women and communion with our God.

It’s almost time!  We had a great Summer of Celebration and now we are looking forward to an awesome opportunity for fellowship, connection and worship as we Celebrate Christ.

You have been waiting for the details and here they are!

Celebrate Christ FAQs:

1.  When is the Retreat? September 25th and 26th.  Sign in will begin on Friday at 4:00 pm with dinner served at 5:30 pm and the first session beginning at 7:00 pm.  We will be finishing up on Saturday at around 3:00 pm.  You will want to come early to enjoy the surroundings if at all possible.  Please note that all times are EASTERN.  We will stay on Georgia time all weekend!

2.  Where is the Retreat?  Harbor Lodge on Lake Martin.  This is the Retreat Center near Children’s Harbor and it is gorgeous!  You will feel relaxed the minute you walk onto these facilities and the scenery itself will be worth the trip.  The drive is one hour and 30 minutes from Columbus.  A group will leave from The Pointe on Friday afternoon to carpool if you are interested.  More details on that to follow.

One note about this beautiful location.  The money we are paying them for our rooms and the use of the conference center, kitchen and facilities is actually going towards their ministry – which is to offer free counseling and support to children with chronic illnesses and their families.  This includes many illness camps they offer to these kids free of charge.  You can read a little more about it here.

3.  What is the cost? The cost of the Retreat will be $60 per woman and that includes the room as well as three meals – dinner Friday night, breakfast and lunch on Saturday.  You will also enjoy some special extra treats along the way .  You will not need any money while at the retreat.

4.  Is there a way for me to support someone who may be struggling with that cost? Absolutely.  CrossPointe is supplementing the cost of the Retreat a bit, but we really wanted to cover most of it ourselves, to be good stewards of our finances.  We realize, however, that this may be a strain for some women and do not want ANYONE left out because of money.  If you want to help support someone else with a need, please contact Hollie at hollie@insidecrosspointe.com or feel free to place a gift in the offering clearly marked “Retreat Scholarship” any Sunday at church.

5. How do I humbly ask for help with that cost? As mentioned above, we want you to be a part.  If you are having difficulty with the cost, please simply let Hollie (hollie@insidecrosspointe.com) or Jennifer (jenevang@gmail.com) know & we will work with you.

6.  What are the room accommodations? Fun, fun, fun!  We will be staying in cabins on the lake and will be the only group at the Retreat Center.  The rooms are very nice and sleep up to 4 women (2 twin beds and 2 twin bunks).  The default number of women in each room will be two, but you are welcome to have more in a room if you want to.  Please note that the cost is the same, regardless of the number in your room.

Each room has it’s own roomy bathroom and cooling unit.  Each room also opens to a large back porch, complete with a view and rocking chairs.  Seriously, this is incredible!

7.  Who will my roommate be? You will have an opportunity to choose your roommate(s) on your registration form.  Please make sure that if you put someone down as a roommate, they also put you down.  If you don’t have anyone in particular in mind or don’t care who you room with, that’s ok, too.  Just leave that part blank and we will match you up.  Part of the fun of trips like this is connecting with others.

8.  What do I need to bring? Most everything will be provided for you so just come with comfy clothes, toiletries (including a hair dryer if desired), your bible and a relaxed attitude.  We will have a fellowship time after the 1st session on Friday night and are asking you to bring a snack for that if you can.  It will be a junk food fest, so the more the merrier!  No pressure, though.

9.  Will childcare be provided? I’m sorry, but no.

10.  Who will be ministering to us? A lot of prayer has been lifted for this retreat already and for the women who will be attending.  We will have 3 different times of worship with music led by Laura Susan Cain and our own CrossPointe women speaking.  Bettye Cheves, Danielle Counts and Jennifer Evangelista will be our speakers.  Please pray for these women and come expecting God to work through each of them.

11.  Sounds like something I want to be a part of!  How do I sign up? Registration begins on Sunday, August 30th and will continue until Sunday, September 20th.  BUT, we are giving out these free goodies to those who register earliest.  If you register by Sunday, September 13th, you may be able to receive one.  These are in limited supply, however, and when they are gone, they are gone.  There will be a table set up out front before and after church each week.

We are very excited about having another opportunity to Celebrate.  Our lives are crazy busy all the time.  We are many things – mothers, grandmothers, daughters, friends, wives, employees, employers, students.  But above all we are Women, loved and cherished by God.  Let’s take some time to worship him without our usual distractions.  Join us!

It’s a Holiday Weekend.  There is a lot to do.  God, however, is demanding our praise and is more than deserving of our worship.  So how do we “ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name”?  We live our lives in worship of him.  We are thankful for what he’s done for us, but we also lift up his name because of Who He Is, regardless of our current circumstances.  We make every effort to celebrate Him in every detail of every day, and we join our voices with others in beautiful worship.

The women of CrossPointe are coming together at The Pointe Monday night, July 6th at 6:30 pm for a time of song, prayer and focus on our most worthy Lord.  

Bring your Bible and something to write on if you are so inclined.  Most of all, bring a heart of joy and praise as we Celebrate Worship.

Could these words be written to your husband with the sincerity that this great woman of faith writes them to hers?  If you are not married, do you want to be able to have these emotions for the one you will eventually spend your life with?

Wow, that’s better than any romantic comedy.  Speaking of, I love a good Chick Flick!  I really, really do – and I know you do, too.  However, think about how you feel when that movie is over.  You are definitely smiling and sighing, satisfied from a happy ending between two beautiful people.  But what are your next thoughts as you look over at the man sitting across the room in his recliner.  The man who left his cup sweating on the end table, potato chip crumbs in the crevices of the chair, and his dinner plate on the table from hours before.  The man who is sound asleep out of sheer boredom or who gave up long ago and is now in the other room watching the ball game.

Now, are those thoughts really fair to him?
