Almighty! All Powerful! Fully capable of accomplishing all of His promises! This is the name of God, El-Shaddai, who spoke to Abram at the age of ninety-nine as a confirmation of His covenant (Gen. 17:1-3). The title “God Almighty” appears several other times in Genesis (28:3, 35:11, 43:14, 48:3) and is a reminder to the patriarchs that God has the ability to provide abundantly.
As I ponder my ‘God Almighty’ and your ‘God Almighty’ I continue to be amazed at the fullness of HIM in my life. He instructs us to walk blameless and HE will take care of the rest. That can be hard for us to get our heads around sometimes when we, in our flesh, still want to control our lives or certain areas of our lives. Think of it this way, if we are walking and we stumble forward HE is there as a pillar and we stand back up, if we are walking and our feet fall out from under us, we fall straight back into HIS arms and HE gently lifts us back to our feet, if we are weary and we sway from side to side, HE is there, shoulder to shoulder protecting us from a fall. Whatever the case may be He can, He will and He is providing for us abundantly.
Thank you Lord for being my God Almighty and my sustainer of life.

Thanks Danielle! It’s wonderful to start my day knowing my father in heaven is God Almighty, El Shaddai. No matter what I face today, my Almighty God is in control! No failure on my part, no dissapointment, no problem, nothing is too “mighty” for our Almighty to bring me through! Praise the Lord! What an awesome God we truly have!
OK, I know this is going to totally date me, but who can hear the name El Shaddai and not start singing the song made famous by Amy Grant (in 1982 – yikes)? Loved it then and love the message now. El Shaddai – God Almighty. Just a side note: some scholars think Shaddai comes from the word “sadu”, meaning “mountain”, suggesting strength and power. Others believe it is derived from “shad”, meaning “breast” in Hebrew, referring to God completely nourishing, satisfying, and supplying His people with all their needs as a mother would her child. I like that – He is our sustainer.
El Shaddai

El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonia,
Age to age You’re still the same, By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai,
We will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.
Through your love and through the ram, You saved the son of Abraham;
Through the power of your hand, Turned the sea into dry land.
To the outcast on her knees, You were the God who really sees,
And by Your might, You set Your children free.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonia,
Age to age You’re still the same, By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai,
We will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.
Through the years You’ve made it clear, That the time of Christ was near,
Though the people couldn’t see What Messiah ought to be.
Though Your Word contained the plan, They just could not understand
Your most awesome work was done Through the frailty of Your Son.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El-Elyon na Adonai,
Age to age You’re still the same, By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai, Erkamka na Adonai,
I will praise and lift You high, El Shaddai.
Man, I wish I could figure out how to play music on this site! Anyone who knows, I’m open for an inservice
.
I don’t have a clue how to get the actual music on the blog, but I do know how to search UTube, so here is the link to a video of her singing El Shaddai live.
This is so fitting for today…uncertainty about what’s next in this whole process. It’s so overwhelming when I try to figure out how “we’re” gonna work it all out but so much more peaceful when I don’t try and let Him do it all.
Thank you Jen for reminding us of the song. That song will forever be embedded in my brain. Thank you Kristian and Kimberly for your thoughts. Yes, when we allow God Almighty, our El Shaddai, to work out all the details for our lives, which is what he has promised to do…we get to watch and be apart of great things. His timing and our timing do not always line up but we can rest and know that God Almighty is in the driver’s seat. Have a great day everyone!!
Wow, Awesome post Danielle. I loved how you gave the word picture of God protecting us on all sides. What a wonderful image of our All Powerful God. I guess in the busyness of life, it’s easy to forget He’s surrounding us, protecting us on all sides. I needed that reminder today, so thanks.
Kristian, thanks for the UTube link, Lauren and I sat here and watched the video. We really enjoyed it! (I’m hoping to pass on the El Shaddai song to a future generation!
