Elohim – The Creator of All

The Name of God we’re focusing on this week is Elohim – “The Creator of All”.  The name ELOHIM appears for God 2570 times in the OT. In fact this it is the first Name for God which appears in the Scripture in Genesis 1:1. ELOHIM is viewed in Scripture as the creator, absolute ruler, & source of all things. The word Elohim, though pointing us to a singular, specific God, is plural in form – probably an early way of pointing us toward the trinity.

Read Genesis 1:26-29.

How often do you reflect upon the fact that God created all of heaven and earth, from the dirt to the grass, to the plants, the birds, the fish, and you? He gave us dominion over every living thing that moves on the earth.  We were carefully created, perfectly in His image. The people, places, flowers, birds, trees, everything around you was carefully created by Him.  Do you have any idea how many different types of flowers there are?  I don’t but I am really in awe when I think of the simple display of God’s beauty that we can see in some of the flowers on earth.

For me, this is a great reminder of how very little I give God credit for.  When I have a “chance” encounter with a kind or generous person, or I come across an especially beautiful sunset, or even in those times that it’s a gloomy day outside, and I have an encounter with a less than kind person, shouldn’t I reflect on the fact that God created these things?  How much more powerful would the sunset be, if only I took the time to think about God and His beauty?  How much more loving might I find that I can be if I see God’s beauty in the people or things in life that don’t seem so ‘perfect’?  It’s hard to even imagine the beauty within Him to have SO creatively and carefully designed our world. He is THE master Architect.  No one, not even the greatest architects in history could even begin to design what God masterfully designed for us.  I could go on and on – for that matter just think about the human body -  all the intricate parts of our being, and even how right now as I think these words, without even the slightest of force on my part, my fingers begin typing them here on this page.  How does that work?  It’s all part of an intricate, beautiful creation, made by the Master of the Universe!  We can study to be Architects, we can study to be Scientists or Doctors, we can even study His word to become a theologian, but not one of us can fully understand His majesty or the majesty found in all that he created!

My God!  How amazing you are!  Thank you for creating such beauty that surrounds me.  Thank you for creating me.  Thank you for all those blessings that I take for granted.  Thank you for the birds and the bees, and the flowers and the trees!  Oh, thank you Lord!  Thank you that you are the creator, absolute ruler, & source of all things.

  1. I love that God is my Creator. Krystee, thanks for the beautiful thoughts about God’s awesome creation. I am so thankful that he was gracious in giving us such a diverse creation. We could never explore all that he created – how cool is that. And it also completely humbles me when I realize that I, too, was created to be part of that diversity. I was “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14-16 ) and I was made for a purpose (Ephesians 2:10, Psalm 57:2, Isaiah 43:7). I was no accident. It does call me to think long and hard, however, about my fulfillment of that purpose. Am I doing all that God has created me to do? Am I walking totally in his plan for my life? I pray that I continue to catch glimpses of what that is, that I am constantly reminded of his might & power when I look at his creation. I pray that I never look at the blooms of Spring, the lushness of Summer, the colors of Fall and the unique beauty of Winter as just photo ops or “more of the same”. I pray that I never lose awe of my Elohim.

  2. Jen,
I was just reflecting on God our Elohim a few days ago

I was sitting outside on my back porch watching the wind blow in the trees, the birds sing their songs of praise, and the butterfly drinking nectar from my flowers when I realized how amazing God truly is!!

I also starting thinking “how can people not believe there is a God!!”

I mean look at the details of this world
    Just conception alone is astonishing!
I am so thankful that God is God and I am not!!
    He astounds me!
    Glory to His name
    Kim

  3. Krystee, I like what you said about seeing God’s beauty in the people/things in life that seem less than “perfect.” Was that just a sweet way of saying, “I see God’s beauty in crabby people?” B/c that’s a huge benefit to looking continuously at God as Elohim. If I see Him as Creator of ALL, then it’s a lot easier to love those crabby people in my life!! Ha!

I hope you guys start looking to God as Elohim, b/c sometimes I’M THAT CRABBY PERSON and I sure do want you all to still love me!! :)

  4. Excellent thoughts Krystee. You know reading how amazing God is as my Elohim is convicting. I reflect on how often I may say something like…. “I hate this or that… you know, like on a rainy days when it’s cold and wet outside and you have to go to the grocery store?” I’m quick to say, “I hate shopping in the rain!” What an insult to Elohim. He made the rain for a most wonderful purpose. “God forgive me for not seeing you in EVERYTHING. Help me appreciate ALL THINGS…. as you are the creator of ALL THINGS!”
